The Marqu\u00e9s de Riscal team was proclaimed the winner of the high handicap Gold Cup on Sunday 29th August, after beating Ayala Polo Team 14-10 in the final of the 50th International Polo Tournament by La Reserva Club de Sotogrande. This trophy, the last to be disputed after the Volvo Bronze Cup and the Terralpa Silver Cup, is part of the Grand Slam and is one of the four most important in the polo universe. The final was attended by the Vice-President of the Junta de Andaluc\u00eda, Juan Mar\u00edn, who took part in the trophy presentation ceremony after the match, played at the Santa Mar\u00eda Polo Club. The stands and boxes were packed with spectators and the atmosphere was exceptional. Nothing to do with the previous year and the first year of the pandemic. It has been more than a month of intense competition with 19 teams participating at the highest level, which have returned to put Sotogrande in the centre of the media attention of the sport worldwide.
\nThe final lived up to the expectations. The team of Spanish patron Marqu\u00e9s de Riscal, formed by Alejandro Aznar, Santiago Cernadas, Guillermo Caset and Cruz Heguy, was ahead on the scoreboard in all the chukkers or times in which the match is divided. The Ayala Polo Team, captained by \u00cd\u00f1igo Z\u00f3bel, gradually closed the gap during the match, especially in the second and fourth chukker. In the end, the Marqu\u00e9s de Riscal team won by 14 goals to 10.<\/p>\n
